After years of success in the pharmaceutical drug development and environmental health and safety industry, Mr. Dixon retired as the senior vice president of quality, enterprise learning and environmental health and safety from PPD, the clinical research group of Thermo Fisher Scientific. In this capacity, he developed and implemented quality and learning strategies and programs regarding quality assurance, compliance, worldwide process excellence programs, and total quality management. Likewise, he also oversaw the company's environmental health and safety and corporate sustainability strategy and programs. Before joining Thermo Fisher, Mr. Dixon worked for PRACS Institute, Ltd. as the chief operating officer, senior vice president, and regulatory affairs, quality, and compliance.
During the early stages of his career, Mr. Dixon gained valuable expertise in clinical research and manufacturing leadership, global quality assurance, compliance, and more in executive roles with Medimmune, LLC, Covance CLS, Abbott Laboratories, Gilead Sciences, and Glaxo. An expert in his field, Mr. Dixon holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Campbell University and graduated in 1984.
Driven to remain abreast of changes in the field, Mr. Dixon aligns himself with several organizations, including the Society of Quality Assurance, Drug Information Association and the Association of Clinical Research Organizations. In conjunction with his work, he contributed to his community in Wilmington, NC as vice chair the United Way. Mr. Dixon also served on the Board of Director's for the Frederick Health Hospital system in Frederick, MD and served as the head of the audit and compliance committee. Similarly, Mr. Dixon was affiliated with the Frederick Mental Health Association and is a huge advocate for mental health awareness. He also served on the Board of Director's for the Institute for Emerging Issues (IEI) at North Carolina State University. IEI worked to collaborate on key emerging issues for North Carolina's future economic competitiveness.
Due to his significant accomplishments, Mr. Dixon has been honored many times, earning the Hospital Products President's Award from Abbott Labs. Subsequently, he received a Corporate Officer's Award from Abbott Labs in 2001 and 2002 and a Corporate Sales and Marketing Award from Covance in 2007. While his career has been filled with highlights, he takes the most pride in his impressive career trajectory and his contributions to the clinical pharmacology group, PRACS Institute, formally Cetero Research. When he joined the company, it was encountering significant regulatory issues with the US Food and Drug Administration that put its business at operational risk of closure. Through tireless negotiations with the agency, Mr. Dixon and team was able to negotiate a successful outcome and path forward to ensure the continued operation of the company.
Though hard work and dedication have brought him far in his career, Mr. Dixon credits his success to his leadership style, which is driven by humility, compassion, and fairness. Looking ahead, he intends to enjoy his well-deserved retirement with his wife, two children and three grandchildren.
