Starting as the director of nursing in 1998, Dr. Costa quickly advanced to become the manager of clinical operations in 1999.

Dr. Costa has led a noteworthy career spanning more than 25 years in health care. In 2022, she joined National Health Care Associates as the chief clinical officer. In this role, she oversees nursing, clinical reimbursement, case management, dieticians, social services and recreation across approximately 40 long-term care and assisted living facilities. Her responsibilities include ensuring regulatory compliance, managing employee engagement and retention and overseeing Medicare reimbursement processes.
Prior to joining National Health Care Associates, Dr. Costa held several key positions over two decades at Genesis, where she began her career. Starting as the director of nursing in 1998, she quickly advanced to become the manager of clinical operations in 1999. By 2003, she was promoted to the director of clinical operations, a role she held until 2010 when she became the vice president of clinical operations. In 2018, she was named the senior vice president of clinical operations before briefly serving as the senior clinical officer in 2022.
Dr. Costa is an active member of several industry-related organizations, including the American Nurses Association and Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing since 2021. She has been involved with the National Association of Directors of Nursing Administration since 2012 and serves on the advisory board for the Arizona College of Nursing and the quality and survey committee for the Massachusetts Senior Care Association. A patient advocate at heart, she attributes her success to her relentless pursuit of improvement and change within the health care system. She encourages her team to work effectively and efficiently while always questioning how processes can be improved.
Dr. Costa's academic achievements have been instrumental in shaping her career. In 1986, she earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Salve Regina University, followed by a master's degree in health care administration and management from the same institution in 1999. In 2022, she achieved her most defining accomplishment by earning a Doctor of Nursing Practice from Chamberlain University. Underscoring her commitment to maintaining high standards of care and operational efficiency are her certifications, which include basic life support from the American Red Cross, obtained in 2021, and Lean Six Sigma Green Belt from the American Society of Quality.
Looking ahead, Dr. Costa aims to elevate long-term care nursing as a desirable profession for registered nurses. Additionally, she hopes to collaborate on publishing research related to long-term care before retiring, demonstrating her blend of professional expertise and personal dedication toward making a significant impact in nursing and long-term care.
