She also found success in entrepreneurship as the owner and operator of Berning Nursing Consultant from 1998 to 2007. Ms. Berning holds a Bachelor of Science in industrial, corporate health, and fitness from Western Oregon State College. She has also obtained several certifications that underscore her commitment to excellence in healthcare. She is a registered nurse, certified professional in healthcare quality, healthcare accreditation certified professional, and certified Lean Six Sigma black belt.
Ms. Berning's professional affiliations include serving on the board of directors for the Ambulatory Surgery Center Quality Collaboration and participating in the Executive Leadership Round Table representing ambulatory nursing with the Association of Operating Room Nurses. She is an honored lifetime member of United Who's Who and a lifetime member of Employer's Who's Who. In addition to her professional endeavors, Ms. Berning is actively involved with Easterseals, United Cerebral Palsy, and Doernbecher's demonstrating her commitment to civic-minded initiatives.
Throughout her career, Ms. Berning has received several prestigious awards, including the James A. Vohs Award for Quality for the Pathway to Zero Initiative, aimed at reducing surgical site infections, by the Corporate Office Kaiser Permanente Quality Oversight Board in 2013.
