Dr. Booher is a distinguished professional in the field of nursing. Her journey in nursing began after her initial career as a high school chemistry teacher. Encouraged by her mother to pursue nursing, a childhood aspiration, she found her true calling when she entered the field and later transitioned into nursing education, which captured her heart. Dr. Booher served as the director of nursing at Providence from 2022 to 2024. She is now Dean of the School of Nursing at Charter College, where she leverages her two decades of experience to oversee a faculty of 20 nurses, a program with over 50 students per cohort. She is also in charge of policies, accreditation, budget, etc.
As the director of nursing, Dr. Booher expertly oversaw the operations of a 100-bed facility, leads and guides a dedicated team of over 200 caregivers and adeptly manages budgets to ensure the provision of top-notch care. Additionally, she takes charge of survey-related tasks and implements essential protocols and policies. Prior to her current role, Dr. Booher served as a nurse educator at Providence from 2021 to 2022. In this capacity, she played a pivotal role in training and mentoring new nurses to ensure they were well-prepared to meet the demands of the profession.
From 2019 to 2021, Dr. Booher worked as a school nurse for the Anchorage School District, where she provided critical health services and education to students. Coupled with her work in the health care sector, her academic career included her tenure as an assistant professor at the University of Alaska Anchorage, where she taught from 2015 to 2019. Beforehand, she was an associate professor at Guilford Technical Community College from 2011 to 2015. Outside of her application of nursing in academia, Dr. Booher's clinical experience is extensive, having worked as a registered nurse at Moses Cone-Wesley Long Community Health Foundation Inc. from 2014 to 2015, Hospice and Palliative Care at Winston Salem from 2008 to 2010 and Novant Health from 2000 to 2008.
Throughout her career, Dr. Booher has been recognized with numerous awards, such as Nurse of The Year by Alaska Dispatch News in 2023 and the Distinguished Alumni Award from Winston-Salem State University. Furthermore, she has received leadership awards from the Anchorage School District. Dr. Booher holds a Doctor of Philosophy in nursing science from the University of Phoenix, which she earned in 2017, along with a master's degree in nursing education as well as a Bachelor of Science in nursing from Winston-Salem State University, which she completed in 2004. In addition, she has a Bachelor of Science in chemistry from the University of North Carolina Asheville, which she obtained in 1996.
Along with her degrees, Dr. Booher's certifications further underscore her expertise and commitment to the field of nursing; she completed the Legal Nurse Consultant Training Course at the Center for Legal Studies in 2021 and became a director of nursing services, a certified nurse educator, a certified dementia practitioner and an end-of-life educated consultant. In tandem with her professional titles, she is the president-elect of the Alaska School Nurses Association, director at large for the Alaska Nurses Association, president of the North Carolina Nurses Association and past president of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. Looking ahead, Dr. Booher hopes to significantly enhance Charter's mission to serve a diverse population in a student-centered and collaborative learning environment to prepare compassionate and highly skilled nursing professionals.
