Before his current role, Dr. King was a graduate student and laboratory manager for the Sim Lab on campus from 2018 to 2024, where he honed his skills in molecular genetics, laboratory oversight and research coordination.
Before joining BU, Dr. King excelled in various other positions, including as a graduate teaching assistant at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas from 2016 to 2017 and as an adjunct laboratory professor at Concordia University Irvine between 2014 and 2016. Earlier, he was affiliated with Chapman University as an Aramark quality assurance manager in 2014. Dr. King also worked for Concordia University while pursuing his undergraduate degree there, beginning as an Aramark maintenance crew member in 2012, then as a laboratory assistant for biology research from 2012 to 2013, and as a projects and events lead between 2013 and 2014.
Dr. King's academic journey began with a Bachelor of Arts in biology with an emphasis in biological research and a minor in chemistry from Concordia University Irvine in 2013. He furthered his education by earning a Doctor of Philosophy in cellular and molecular biology from Baylor University (BU) in 2024.
In addition to his professional achievements, Dr. King is an active member of several research-related organizations, including the American Society of Tropical Health and Medicine, the Entomological Society of America, and the American Society of Microbiology. His involvement in these organizations underscores his commitment to advancing scientific knowledge and fostering collaboration within the scientific community.
Throughout his career, Dr. King has been recognized for his excellence in teaching and mentorship. He was a graduate mentor for the 2021 Scholars Week award-winning presentation by Mazie Larson and Kaylee McKay and received the Biology Department Certificate of Excellence in Teaching in 2022. Dr. King dedication to education is further exemplified by his inspiring experiences with former undergraduate students who have achieved significant milestones, such as pursuing advanced degrees and excelling in their respective fields.
Dr. King's contributions to scientific literature include several notable publications in scholarly journals. He was also an invited speaker for the Entomology 2021 section, "A Functional Genomics Approach to Insect Overwintering and Cold Tolerance."
Dr. King attributes much of his success to the early influence of his grandparents, who sparked his interest in research.
