Mr. Stephens began his career at Eli Lilly and Company in 1994 in the toxicology division. Over the next several years he held various roles, including in vivo pharmacology, as a compliance consultant, and a manager of veterinary resources. During his tenure at Eli Lilly, he also earned a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification, which significantly contributed to his expertise in process improvement and operational efficiency.
In 2016, Mr. Stephens transitioned to Elanco Animal Health, where he initially served as a manager of global animal welfare. He quickly advanced to become the director of research operations and global animal welfare, a role he held until 2020. During this period, he made significant strides by spearheading Elanco's global animal welfare program and consolidating six global programs into one comprehensive initiative. He also initiated various programs aimed at improving the well-being of research animals, including adoption programs that enabled them to transition into family life after their contributions to science.
Mr. Stephens' academic background includes a Bachelor of Science in veterinary technology from Purdue University, obtained in 2002, and a Master of Business Administration in finance from the University of Indianapolis School of Business, completed in 2012. In addition, Mr. Stephens is a past member of the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science. He has also been recognized with a Scientific Award for Scientific Innovation, underscoring his contributions to the field.
Outside of his professional life, Mr. Stephens is dedicated to civic engagement. He serves as co-captain for the Light the Night Annual Fundraiser organized by the Lymphoma and Leukemia Society. In his personal time, he enjoys raising horses, a passion that provides him with a fulfilling balance between work and leisure.
