From 2016 to 2021, Dr. Bhalala was an assistant professor of pediatric critical care medicine and director of pediatric critical care research at The Children's Hospital of San Antonio, Baylor College of Medicine. With his exceptional leadership skills, he got promoted in 2019 as the director of Voelker Clinical Research Center at The Children's Hospital of San Antonio, Baylor College of Medicine. Dr. Bhalala's earlier roles include being a pediatric intensivist, a simulation facilitator and assistant professor at Johns Hopkins Hospital from 2012 to 2015 and an instructor at the University of Pennsylvania between 2010 and 2012. He began his career in 2000 as a physician at the Sir H.N. Reliance Foundation Hospital in India.
Dr. Bhalala's academic background began with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from King Edward Memorial Hospital and Seth Gordhandas Sunderdas Medical College in 1999. Subsequently, he earned a Master of Science in pediatrics from the University of Bombay in 2004. He has been certified by Center for Medical Simulation, Harvard Medical School as a Simulation Facilitator since 2017. Dr. Bhalala is currently pursuing a Master of Business Administration to further enhance his leadership skills in health care administration.
Apart from his educational background, Dr. Bhalala has been certified by the American Board of Pediatrics since 2009 and has held a physician license from the Texas Medical Board since 2016. He also garnered certifications in clinical trials with investigational drugs, medical devices, and biomedical research from the CITI Program in 2022, received a health care quality and management certification from the American Board of Quality Assurance and Utilization Review Physicians in 2023, and has been a board-certified medical affairs specialist by the Accreditation Council for Medical Affairs since 2023.
Dr. Bhalala has been actively involved in various professional organizations throughout his career. He has held numerous leadership positions within the Society of Critical Care Medicine, including chairing several committees and task forces. He has also served on the board of directors for the Texas chapter of the Society of Critical Care Medicine and as a board member for CHRISTUS Health's Institutional Review Board.
Outside his professional life, Dr. Bhalala is actively involved in civic organizations, including the Coastal Bend India Association, where he serves as a president-elect volunteer. He also supports local initiatives like Windsor Park Elementary School.
Dr. Bhalala's dedication to his profession is evident through his numerous awards, including being named Best Pediatrician in Texas for 2022-2023, receiving national research awards in India, and multiple research awards from the Society of Critical Care Medicine.
