Mr. Pauley is a distinguished expert in fire service health and safety. He has been a researcher, speaker, and consultant in this area for the last fifteen years. In this role at Pacific Pointe Consulting, Inc., he provides corporate training and assistance with business process improvement regarding the fire and post-fire environment. He also serves as an adjunct instructor at the Virginia Department of Fire Programs, a position he has held since 2022.
Before his current roles, Mr. Pauley's career spanned several decades across a variety of public safety-related roles that have shaped his extensive knowledge and skills. From 2018 to 2022, he worked as a fire investigator at EFI Global Inc. Prior to that, he served as the battalion chief and fire marshal for the Bedford County Department of Fire & Rescue from 2015 to 2017 and as deputy fire marshal from 2010 until 2015. Prior to that, Mr. Pauley was a law enforcement officer, retiring from that service in 2000.
In addition to his vocational endeavors, Mr. Pauley pursued higher education to bolster and diversify his skills. He earned a master's degree in occupational safety and health from Columbia Southern University in 2021, following a graduate certificate in public administration from Southern New Hampshire University in 2016, a Bachelor of Science in management studies from the University of Maryland Global Campus in 1994, and an associate degree in law enforcement from the same institution in 1980.
Mr. Pauley holds and has held numerous certifications that underscore his expertise and commitment to the fire service. He is a Certified Fire Investigator from the International Association of Arson Investigators Inc. and previously was a certified Hazard Recognition Specialist from the National Fire Protection Association and a Fire Inspector II by the Virginia Department of Fire Programs, among numerous other certifications.
Throughout his career, Mr. Pauley has been recognized for his contributions to the field. Serving on the Health & Safety Committee, he received the IAAI Presidential Certificate of Appreciation from President Chris VanVleet of the International Association of Arson Investigators Inc. in 2024. Furthermore, he was bestowed the Community Builder Award from the Masons of Virginia in 2013. Mr. Pauley has also contributed to the field with an array of publications, among them including "Understanding the Impact of PFAS in the Fire Service" and "Characterization of Fire Investigators' Polyaromatic Hydrocarbon Exposures Using Silicone Wristbands," both released in 2024. He is a member of several professional organizations to support his work in the field of fire service health and safety.
