Mr. Plumb, following his undergraduate education where he received a Bachelor of Arts in history from the State University of New York at Buffalo, joined the U.S. Navy, serving as an ensign to lieutenant from 1964 to 1968. His military service instilled a sense of discipline and the ability to take calculated risks, which would later prove invaluable in his civilian career. After his naval service he earned a Master of Arts in journalism from Syracuse University in 1969.
In addition to his professional achievements, Mr. Plumb is actively involved in several industry- and civic-related organizations, including the Army and Navy Club of Washington, D.C., the American Battlefield Trust, the Montgomery County Civil War Roundtable, the Civil War Round Table of the District of Columbia, the Montgomery County Historical Society and the Society of Civil War Historians.
