Ms. Johnson has also been active as an independent operations and management consultant as well as a freelance project manager for the last fourteen years.
With an impressive career spanning nearly three decades, Ms. Johnson has demonstrated proficiency in various facets of health care and information technology (IT). Her journey began in the U.S. Air Force, where she served from 1994 to 2000 as a surgical technologist and first assistant at Keesler Medical Center in Biloxi, Mississippi. Following her active duty, Ms. Johnson continued her service in the U.S. Air Force Reserve in New Orleans until 2004.
Ms. Johnson's transition into civilian roles saw her excel as a certified travel surgical tech and first assistant from 2000 to 2011, working on 13-week contracts across different hospitals all over the United States. She then took on roles such as lead instructor and clinical coordinator for the Surgical Technologist program at Herzing University of New Orleans, Everest College and High-Tech Institute in Atlanta, GA between 2007 and 2010, as well as a Certified Medical Assistant instructor with Blue Cliff College in New Orleans in 2010 and 2012. Additionally, Ms. Johnson worked as a certified surgical tech and anesthesia tech supervisor at Tulane Medical Center in New Orleans from 2007 to 2011.
As her career trajectory continued, Ms. Johnson ascended as she became an EMR implementation project manager at Implemend LLC from 2010 to 2011 and a virtual payroll specialist with Oracle Valet, LLC of New Orleans between 2007 and 2011. She further honed her skills as a clinical medical assistant program manager at Blue Cliff College in 2013 and practice manager at Tulane Medical Center from 2012 to 2013. Ms. Johnson also held positions such as senior information technology analyst at People's Health Network between 2013 and 2014 which lead to exploring many other health systems across the United States through contracts with many companies such as Ettain Group, TekSystems, Oxford Health, Medical Advantage Group and Avery Partners starting in 2014 to present day.
In subsequent years, Ms. Johnson worked as a business operations manager for the student health center at Tulane University from 2015 to 2016. She also found success with FQHC's across the United States such as Saint John's Well Child & Family Center and White Memorial Community Center of Los Angeles, CA as a project manager, EMR specialist, IT analyst and trainer from 2017 to 2019, as well as ResiHealth of Cleveland, OH as a HIT Director and EMR Implementation specialist from 2022 to 2023.
As an accomplished author, Ms. Johnson published a self-help journal to encourage professionals to maintain a positive mindset during challenging work situations. She has also developed a Consultant Excellence Program to cross-train industry professionals in the field of Healthcare IT. This program has proven to be successful for 100% of the attendees. Her other creative pursuits also include poetry writing and graphic t-shirts designed to educate and motivate.
Ms. Johnson's academic achievements include an Associate of Science in Allied Health with a focus on surgical technology from the Community College of the Air Force in Biloxi, MS since 1999, a bachelor's degree in business management from the University of New Orleans in Louisiana in 2009 and a Master of Science in Health Services Administration from Strayer University in Atlanta, GA., in 2011.
Deeply involved with community organizations, Ms. Johnson is active with her nonprofit organization, A Dream Determined, with vigorous plans to expand her unique afterschool programs to local middle and high schools, as well as the Boys & Girls Club in New Orleans. She also volunteers with Hands-On New Orleans where she helps to repair and restore school sites through painting and small repair projects once a month. Furthermore, Ms. Johnson works with youth and young adults aged 13 to 25 through her nonprofit organization as a high school student mentor and education advocate promoting formal and freelance educational journeys. She is a former vice president of the New Orleans chapter of the National Black MBA Association and parent advocate for the National Association of Child Care Resource and Referral Agency.
Throughout her career, one of Ms. Johnson's most notable achievements was overseeing the establishment of a Primary Care clinic within a low-income housing unit in Cleveland, OH. She was the EMR project manager and HIT Director from February 2023 until its opening in January 2024. Ms. Johnson has also been recognized with numerous accolades, including recognition as the Employee of the Quarter and Manager of the Quarter with several organizations throughout her career. Moreover, she received several Leadership Award recognitions while on Active Duty in the Air Force.
