Mr. Yohannes's career began at Bank of America (formerly Security Pacific), where he progressed from a trainee to an Executive Vice President from 1977 to 1992. He then joined U.S. Bank (formerly Colorado National Bank), serving as president between 1992 and 1996, Chief Executive Officer from 1996 to 1999 and Vice Chairman of U.S Bank Holding Company between 1999 and 2003 overseeing commercial and consumer banking.

Described by CNN as "Obama's man on global development," Mr. Yohannes brought his private sector expertise as the Chief Executive Officer of the Millennium Challenge Corporation, an independent U.S. Government development agency, from 2009 to 2014. Mr. Yohannes was appointed to this position and confirmed by President Obama and by the full senate. Under his guidance, the agency focused on creating economic opportunities globally, working with underdeveloped countries that are committed to good democratic and economic principles. Under Mr. Yohannes's leadership, the Millennium Challenge Corporation has lifted over 180 million people out of poverty.

From 20014 to 2017, Mr. Yohannes served as the U.S. Ambassador for the Organization for Economic Co-Operation and Development. This appointment was also under President Obama and confirmed by the U.S Senate. As an Ambassador, Mr. Yohannes has worked on climate issues, tax reform, governance, development, and inclusive economic growth as top priorities for the United States at the Organization for Economic Co-Operation.

Mr. Yohannes's educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Claremont McKenna College in 1976 and a Master of Business Administration from Pepperdine University in 1980. His academic achievements have been instrumental in his professional success, providing a solid foundation for his roles in the corporate and nonprofit sectors.

Throughout his career, Mr. Yohannes has been actively involved in various civic-minded organizations. He has served on the board of National Jewish Health, Meridian International Center, and the Smithsonian Institution. Mr. Yohannes was the Co-Chair of the G8 Summit in Denver. Mr. Yohannes was one of the major supporters of the National Museum of African American History and Culture at the Smithsonian Institution during its formation. Moreover, Mr. Yohannes's dedication to philanthropy has been evident through his involvement with the Denver Art Museum, where he has helped fund an art sector focused on promoting black art, African American art and African art.

Mr. Yohannes has received numerous accolades for his contributions, including the Highest Distinguished Award from the U.S. Department of State. Born in Addis Ababa, he immigrated to the U.S. at age 16, attributing his success to unwavering determination and hard work.

For over a decade, Mr. Yohannes's primary goal has been to give back to society by assisting people in need domestically and beyond. His remarkable work at the Millennium Challenge Corporation inspired him to continue creating economic opportunities worldwide.
