Prior to this role, Dr. Roy was the director of program development at the Buffett Early Childhood Institute at the University of Nebraska from 2019 to 2022. Her career also includes impactful positions such as the executive director of early education at Denver Public Schools from 2016 until 2019, a consultant for Grantmakers for Education from 2015 to 2016 and the executive director at the Timothy and Bernadette Marquez Foundation between 2010 and 2014. She previously served as a senior associate at the Center for the Study of Social Policy from 2008 to 2010 and a program officer at the Piton Foundation from 2004 until 2008.
Dr. Roy is renowned for her expertise in early childhood leadership, equity, administration and policy. Her achievements have been recognized with several awards, including a governor's citation from the state of Colorado in 1995 and inclusion in Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. She is a life member of the Golden Key International Honour Society and holds memberships in several industry-related organizations such as the National Association for the Education of Young Children and the International Women's Forum of Colorado, among others.
Laying the groundwork for Dr. Roy's professional accomplishments is an extensive academic background. She earned an Associate of Arts from the Community College of Aurora in 1992, followed by a Bachelor of Arts in psychology and speech communications from the Metropolitan State College of Denver in 1994. She subsequently earned a Master of Arts in counseling education and psychology with an emphasis on school counseling from the University of Colorado in 1996, a degree awarded with high honors. In 2016, she earned a Doctor of Education in leadership in educational equity with an emphasis on executive leadership from the University of Colorado Denver.
Further enhancing Dr. Roy's qualifications are a certification in executive education from the Senior Executives in State and Local Government program at the Harvard Kennedy School and a graduate certificate in advanced writing from the University of Nebraska Omaha. She attributes her success to her family's legacy of educators and leaders who instilled in her a determination to contribute positively to society. This influence has been a guiding force throughout her career, leading her to significant roles through which she could champion equitable education initiatives.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Dr. Roy is actively involved with several civic-minded organizations, including serving on boards for various educational and community service programs across Colorado since the mid-1990s. Her commitment extends to creative pursuits as well; she is an accomplished writer with essays published in notable outlets like Essay Daily and the Brevity Blog. Looking ahead, she plans to retire within a few years to focus more on genealogy research and creative writing projects that highlight lesser-known historical narratives through both written work and documentary filmmaking collaborations with family members.
