Mr. Aponte started his career as an account executive at Border Media from 2007 to 2009, followed by similar roles at Liberman Broadcasting from 2009 to 2010 and Univision from 2010 to 2014. His transition into the renewable energy industry began with his position as an account manager for commercial operations at Sunnova Energy International Inc. from 2014 to 2018. In this role, he successfully built and maintained strong relationships with solar contractors across CA, NM, NV, AZ, and TX, establishing a solid network that supported significant growth and led the successful execution of plans that supported the growth of four key partners, installing over 6 MW of systems and securing over $26 million in committed capital in 2015. He then advanced to become the district director of sales for the south-central region at Sunfinity Renewable Energy from 2018 to 2020. In this role, he spearheaded the overall sales approach and shifted the focus from product mentality to a solutions-based outcome approach, and designed customized sales solutions to optimize performance and growth.
In 2020, Mr. Aponte joined Titan Solar Power where he established three new branches to better serve the Texas and New Mexico markets. His efforts in applying Six Sigma DMAIC methodology reduced project timeframes, contributing to a 220% year-over-year sales increase. Additionally, he obtained the PVIP NABCEP certification, which was crucial in maintaining access to utility rebates and boosting sales. Later that year, he transitioned to Freedom Solar LLC as the director of project operations until 2023. During his tenure here, he successfully directed multiple teams, including design engineers, permitting departments, installation scheduling, and customer service, across 12 markets in the United States. His focus on improving internal operations and streamlining workflows led to a significant increase in the company's Net Promoter Score from 39% to 68% and resulted in 43.5 MW of projects ready to schedule in 2023. His achievements include reducing the velocity between sales and installation from 107 days to 38 days through process improvements.
Mr. Aponte's educational background includes a bachelor's degree in commercial advertising from Universidad de Puerto Rico in 2003 and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Phoenix in 2012. He holds several certifications, including NABCEP Board Certified PV Installation Professional and NABCEP Board Certified PV Technical Sales from the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners, a Part 107 (UAS) Pilot License from the Federal Aviation Administration, and a Six Sigma Green Belt from the University of Houston.
A member of the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners, Mr. Aponte attributes much of his success to to his curiosity and passion for the solar industry.
