As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Adding to a career of nearly four decades as a soil scientist, Mr. Davis has embraced a leadership role in education as the three-time president of the Marysville Joint Unified School District Board of Trustees. He has built up a reputation for effective communication and management in this role. Mr. Davis' duties include overseeing the superintendent, providing administrative guidance and managing the budget for a school district that teaches over 10,000 students across 21 campuses. During his time as president, he helped the school district successfully navigate the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, creating wellness centers for students, staff and families that eased their burden in difficult times.

Concurrently with his work with the school district, Mr. Davis also offers his expertise as a senior soil scientist and watershed manager for KD Yellow Rose Ranch and as a soil scientist lecturer for Lorman Education Services. At KD Yellow Rose Ranch since 2012, he has worked tirelessly to improve the environment, including building a retention pool to prevent soil erosion, even though he did not have the help of an engineer. Mr. Davis' lengthy career in science includes stints as an advisor for the Yuba County Fish & Game Commission, a docent for the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History, and the water program leader for the Bridger-Teton National Forest, among others. His career began with his time as a soil scientist for the Hiawatha National Forest in 1979, and he worked in various roles with the United States Forest Service for over 30 years.

Among his many accomplishments, Mr. Davis played a significant part in revising the United States Department of Agriculture's Forest Service Soil Management Manual. He rewrote the manual through a team approach, working from multiple forest plans to create an updated text with more relevant and modernized information. Mr. Davis' revised Soil Management Manual is still in use today and is sure to be an invaluable resource for many years. Another highlight happened in 1988, when he aided in fighting wildfires in Yellowstone National Park, as well as in soil and plant recovery efforts afterward.

Mr. Davis' ability to adapt to a varied career is rooted in a solid educational background. He received an Associate of Arts in botany from Yuba College in 1972. Mr. Davis earned a Bachelor of Science in soil and plant nutrition from the University of California, Berkley in 1976. He credits his success to unwavering dedication to and passion for his profession.

As part of his commitment to his profession, Mr. Davis maintains membership in several industry-related organizations, including the Soil Science Society of America and the Soil and Water Conservation Society, where he has previously served as both a chapter president and a member of the board of directors. He has also helped spread his knowledge of soil science through articles in several professional journals and as the editor of the Soil Classifiers Newsletter.

Known for his contributions to the wider community, Mr. Davis spent several years as the president of the Sault Community Theatre. He currently holds the position of president of the Lions Clubs International's local chapter. Through that role, Mr. Davis leads a group of 20-plus members in fundraisers, activities, contests and initiatives that support school programs. He also helps mentor students in speaking and writing with an emphasis on self-expression rather than just spelling and grammar.

Beyond his professional life, Mr. Davis enjoys gardening, photography and learning about history. Looking ahead, he plans to continue using the communication and collaborative work skills he fostered throughout his career in science. Mr. Davis now employs those skills to improve the learning environment in the Marysville Joint Unified School District, a process he takes great pride in. He's driven by a desire to leave a positive impact which is showcased in his achievements throughout his career across disciplines.
