Drawing on years of expertise in clinical trial management and leadership specializing in cancer and infectious diseases, Ms. Baseler excelled as the (now retired) director of the Clinical Monitoring Research Program at the FNLCR. In this role she established clinical trial infrastructure and oversaw regulatory compliance for the protection of human subjects participating in clinical trials conducted by the National Institutes of Health around the world. Over the years, Ms. Baseler has traveled extensively to launch clinical trials worldwide, contributing to her personal mission of improving human health and well-being. Since retiring from the FNLCR in December 2022, Ms. Baseler has served as a senior project manager at Manpower supporting special projects at the FNLCR.
During the early stages of her career, Ms. Baseler gained valuable expertise in project operations, strategic planning, risk management, and more as the directorate head of clinical monitoring and research program directorate for Leidos Biomedical Research's Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research. Between 1978 and 2022, she spearheaded complex and diverse clinical projects nationwide and internationally. Before establishing herself professionally, she earned a bachelor's in biology from McDaniel College. Subsequently, Ms. Baseler expanded her knowledge by completing a Master of Science in administration and management from Hood College.
Driven by her commitment to staying informed about industry changes, Ms. Baseler has maintained her affiliation with the Society of Clinical Research Associates, the Regulatory Affairs Professionals Society, and the Association of Public Health. Her dedication to her community through Blessings in a Backpack, the Ocean City Reed Foundation, and Woman to Woman Mentoring, where she has volunteered as a mentor since 2024, serves as a shining example of selflessness and inspiration to all.
Given her professional achievements, Ms. Baseler won several Director's Awards from the National Institutes of Health and the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. Her career, filled with highlights, is a testament to her hard work and dedication. She takes the most pride in her journey from a basic laboratory technician to an executive director. Her most notable project was regarding the Ebola outbreak in West Africa from 2014 until 2016, during which time she was on the ground launching clinical trials that significantly contributed to the understanding and management of the disease.
While hard work and dedication have propelled her career, Ms. Baseler attributes her success to the unwavering support of her husband and family, the guidance of her parents, the mentorship of outstanding mentors, and her passion for biology and clinical research.
