Oliver Chamberlain, Jr. MM, MA, MFA Celebrated for Dedication to the Field of Music

Oliver Chamberlain, Jr. MM. MA. MFA retired from the University of Massachusetts, Lowell in 1996



His performances as principal bass in the Conservatory Orchestra and in the ensemble performing Stravinsky's L'Histoire du soldat, broadcast on WGBH, Boston, were well-received.

    CRANSTON, RI, September 23, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Oliver Chamberlain, Jr. MM, MA, MFA has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Under the guidance of a skilled teacher, Mr. Chamberlain developed a passion for the double bass. Subsequently, he played with the Monmouth Symphony Orchestra in New Jersey. He received opportunities to perform pop and jazz music, which led him to obtain a working card at age 16 in the American Federation of Musicians. Mr. Chamberlain was noticed for his talent, earning the support of an orchestra conductor and a scholarship to study double bass with the principal bass of the Boston Symphony at the New England Conservatory. His performances as principal bass in the Conservatory Orchestra and in the ensemble performing Stravinsky's L'Histoire du soldat, broadcast on WGBH, Boston, were well-received. He earned BM and MM degrees at New England Conservatory. He next studied music history at Brandeis University earning a MFA degree. At the University of Michigan, he earned a Certificate in Philosophy of Music: Musicology.

He next became a faculty member in music history, chair of that program and co-chair of the Department of Composition and History in the College of Musical Arts at Bowling Green State University. On sabbatical from Bowling Green he earned a MA degree in Arts Management at American University in Washington, DC. He next served as the Executive Director for the University of Massachusetts Lowell's Center for the Arts, presenting national and international artists in music, dance and theater and Young Concert Artists in recitals and master classes. He was elected President of New England Presenters, a six-state consortium of community, college and university presenters of the performing arts.

He has published and given talks on music of the 13th, 16th, and 19th centuries. On NYC landscape architect Harold Caparn, he has published articles and a book on Caparn's artistic landscapes and influential writings, A Clear Vision to Future Delight. He has retired, but continues to give talks and write.
