Dr. Orazi's journey in the medical field began with earning an MD from Università degli Studi di Milano in 1979. His training in clinical hematology in the United Kingdom paved the way for his specialization in hematopathology, a field he has dedicated many years to. After working in Italy as a staff pathologist at the Division of Anatomic Pathology and Cytopathology of the Istituto Nazionale Tumori in Milano, he moved permanently to the USA in February 1992. His certifications in anatomic pathology and hematology through the American Board of Pathology, along with specialty diplomas from the University of Pavia and the University of Milan, underscore his extensive knowledge and professional skills.
Dr. Orazi has honed his expertise in diagnostic hematology and medical education over the years, serving as a professor at the Indiana University School of Medicine and at prestigious New York universities such as Columbia and Cornell. At these institutions, he directed the Hematopathology Diagnostic Service as well as the Hematopathology Fellowship Program. Currently, Dr. Orazi is the chair of the Pathology Department at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center's Paul L. Foster School of Medicine, where he continues to excel in his leadership role.
Driven to remain abreast of ongoing scientific and professional changes, Dr. Orazi aligns himself with several organizations, including the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology, the Society for Hematopathology, and the Royal College of Pathologists. Given his professional achievements, he has been honored with America's Top Doctors for Cancer and America's Best Doctors. Similarly, he received a Resident Award from Thomas Jefferson University, was honored by being listed as a 2% Top Scientist worldwide, and has been named a Top Doctor in Texas yearly since 2019. However, Dr. Orazi is most proud of his significant involvement in disease classification efforts in collaboration with the World Health Organization and other expert groups. His efforts which have generated numerous scientific publications and book contributions have significantly advanced our knowledge and clinical understanding in terms of disease classification, particularly hematologic diseases.
Though hard work and dedication have brought him far in his career, Dr. Orazi credits his success to having the right mentors, his unwavering perseverance, and his effective use of time. Looking ahead, he intends to experience the continued success of his career with Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center's Paul L. Foster School of Medicine.
