Earlier in his career, Mr. Patzig served as business regulation counsel at Portfolio Recovery Associates Inc. from 2012 to 2014. He also held positions as an associate at the Law Offices of Heath J. Thompson P.C. from 2011 to 2012 where he worked to prevent bank foreclosures, and as chief executive officer and owner of 411 for Fathers during the same period. His legal career began with a role as a law clerk at the Buchanan County Commonwealth's Attorney Office from 2009 to 2010.

Mr. Patzig's academic achievements have been instrumental in his success. He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in business management in 1999 and a Bachelor of Science in information systems in 2003, both from Radford University. In 2010, he obtained a Juris Doctor from Appalachian School of Law, where he was actively involved in community service projects and received a Community Service Award for his contributions.
Mr. Patzig was admitted to practice law by the DC Bar Association in 2023 and the Virginia State Bar in 2011. He is a past committee member of the Virginia Beach Bar Association and a past board member of the Chesapeake Bar Association. He is also a member of several other bars, including the District of Columbia Bar the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, the US Circuit Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Virginia, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims. W. Andrew Patzig is also a licensed Realtor in Virginia and Guardian ad litem for children.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Mr. Patzig is deeply committed to supporting children and teenagers who have lacked family or community support and have faced family and/or educational challenges.
