Tom Taormina Recognized for Expertise in the Fields of Consulting and Engineering

Tom Taormina celebrated for over 55 years of experience in his industry



During his tenure at NASA. he was a pioneering member of the mission control center in Houston, Texas, where he played a crucial role in the Gemini, Apollo and Skylab missions.

    RENO, NV, October 03, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Tom Taormina has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. Mr. Taormina is a distinguished professional with a career spanning over five decades. As the principal of The Taormina Group since 1991, he has established himself as an expert in management consulting, specializing in building self­ directed work teams and implementing international quality standards, such as ISO 9001. His expertise also extends to serving as an expert witness in product liability and organizational negligence litigation, as well as facilitating organizational excellence.

Mr. Taormina's career began with his role as a quality control engineer at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the Ford Motor Company from 1966 to 1980. During his tenure at NASA. he was a pioneering member of the mission control center in Houston, Texas, where he played a crucial role in the Gemini, Apollo and Skylab missions. His dedicated support for all 17 Apollo missions left a lasting impact on space exploration, and he is proud of his contributions to the team that responded to the iconic words: 'Houston, we have a problem.'

He then served several companies as a manufacturing and quality manager. including Systronics from 1980 to 1985, Daniel industries from 1985 to 1989, Control Applications from 1986 to 1989 and VJ Assemblies from 1989 to 1990. In 1990, he became the director of training at Schlumberger Anadrill before founding The Taormina Group.

In addition to his primary roles, Mr. Taormina has contributed significantly to academia and professional organizations. He has served as an adjunct trainer at the University of Nevada Reno and has been involved with Truckee Meadows Community College, Western Nevada College and Morrison University. He is also a former chairman of the Quality Management Systems Committee within the Quality Management Division of the American Society for Quality.

Mr. Taormina's academic background includes coursework in electrical and electronics engineering at both the University of Houston in 1969 and the State University of New York at Farmingdale in 1964. He is also certified as a Business Management Systems Master by Q-Productivity, a Certified Management Consultant by the Institute of Management Consultants Institute and a Certified Manager of Quality and Organizational Excellence by ASQ.

Throughout his career, Mr. Taormina has authored over twenty books and publications on quality management and organizational excellence. Notable works include "Is Quality Just a Word We Use?: TI1e Evolution from Managing Quality to Championing Organizational Excellence," "73 and DX: 60 Years of Ham Radio," "It Was Rocket Science: Flying the Mission of Business Success" and "Foreseeable Risk: Minimizing Cost and Maximizing Outcomes in Products Liability Litigation." His contributions have made him a sought-after speaker, contributing to more than thirty-­five industry conferences.

Mr. Taormina is also deeply involved in civic activities. He has been a trainer of potential and new amateur radio operators for over forty years and has served as the emergency communications officer for Amateur Radio Emergency Services since 1987. He is a past president of The Texas DX Society and the Stephen F. Austin Radio Clubs, chaired Houston Ham Conventions from 1976 to 1980 and co-founded the Nevada Space Center in Reno. He also serves on the board of the Challenger Leaming Center in Reno.

In recognition of his work, Mr. Taormina received an induction into the CQ Contest Hall of Fame as inductee number fifty and was granted a Recognition of Service Award for supporting all seventeen Apollo moon missions. Outside his professional life, he enjoys spending time with his family.
