Before assuming her leadership role at Leadership Preparatory Charter School, Ms. James served as a founding first-grade teacher at the school beginning in 2015. She held this position for three years before transitioning to an academic coach and eventually becoming the principal. Prior to joining Leadership Prep, Ms. James taught at New Hope Christian School in Jackson, Mississippi, from 2009 to 2015, where she refined her expertise in classroom management and curriculum development. Her dedication and innovative teaching methods were pivotal in helping the school build its reputation for academic excellence. In preparation for her future, Ms. James received a bachelor's degree in business management from Jackson State University and a master's degree from Relay Graduate School of Education. She also received her K-12 Educational Leadership Certificate from the University of Memphis.
Ms. James has received several accolades throughout her career, including being spotlighted during Teacher Appreciation Month by the Relay Graduate School of Education. She attributes her success to her humility and unwavering commitment to continuous learning. She believes learning is a lifelong pursuit and is always open to feedback from students and fellow educators. Ms. James completed the Building Excellent Schools: Leaders for Emerging Networks of Schools cohort in 2019, where she further honed her leadership skills to help teachers effectively use data to enhance instruction across all subjects. She is also a member of the 2024 Leadership Cohort through the Principals Learning Center, a program designed to equip school leaders with the tools necessary for impactful and transformative leadership.
