Dr. Leuchter dedicated 35 years as a physician at Cedars Cancer Center. During this time, he honed his skills in life-saving surgeries, particularly those involving cancer and severe bleeding. In preparation for his medical career, Dr. Leuchter earned a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Toronto in 1970. He then completed a general practice internship through a Rotating Internship in 1970-1971. Following this, Dr. Leuchter practiced Family Medicine for 4 years in Vancouver British Columbia. Seeking more challenges Dr. Leuchter pursued a residency at Cedars and UCLA, further solidifying his foundation in medicine. His academic pursuits culminated in a fellowship in Gynecologic Oncology at the University of California Los Angeles, pursuing a clinical academic teaching and surgical career at both UCLA and Cedars-Sinai Medical Centers.
In addition to his professional affiliations, he is actively involved in civic-minded organizations, initially volunteering at Free Abnormal Pap and Colposcopy clinics for many years and being involved in ovarian cancer charities. His commitment to these causes reflects his dedication to giving back to the community and supporting cancer survivors.
Dr. Leuchter has made significant contributions to medical literature as an author of several medical journal articles and authoring chapters in two textbooks. These publications highlight his expertise and provide valuable insights into advancements in gynecologic oncology and surgical practices.
Because of his contributions, Dr. Leuchter has been recognized with several awards. He received the Leo T. Rigler award as outstanding chief resident, and seven teaching awards in the field of surgical gynecologic Oncology. In appreciation of his outstanding surgical achievements, the Ronald S. Leuchter Award and Plaque is awarded annually to the final year Cedars-Sinai resident demonstrating exceptional creative and surgical skill.
Dr. Leuchter attributes much of his success to his excellent education, from medical student through residency and fellowship.
