MADRID, SPAIN, May 14, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- BabelFAmily is pleased to announce the launch of a new website that currently supports 10 different languages, viewable and searchable at www.babelfamily.org.
The website is the first of its kind to share information globally about a rare, neurodegenerative progressive disease called Friedreich's Ataxia (FA) that has no cure today. The BabelFAmily group has a team of translators across the world that continuously finds, translates and distributes news in multiple languages to keep patients, families, doctors and researchers abreast of new information that can help drive treatments and a future cure. There are wonderful FA associations around the world that BabelFAmily partners with to tie information together to cross language barriers that previously left many parts of the world unaware of important progress.
The new site provides users the ability to click on the language of their choice to find a comprehensive overview of FA-related news. Visitors also will find the site inviting utilizing the latest social networking channels like Facebook, MySpace, and YouTube to spread the word and gain awareness. Special site features include: discussion forums, RSS feeds, a real-time global map of how many people are online from each country, photos and videos, audio clips of presentations, contact information for FA organizations worldwide, and more. The site will soon have complete sections for fundraising initiatives, a calendar of events and information on clinical trials. BabelFAmily will continue to add new features and fill current sections as members populate areas like forums to make them more robust over time.
BabelFAmily was conceived in 2006 by Gian Piero Sommaruga, Mari Luz Gonzalez and Diego Plaza as a multilingual information-sharing vehicle to speed dissemination of critical news to all parts of the globe. Diego Plaza states, "The team has grown quickly. We hope to act as the glue in the Friedreich's Ataxia community to ensure equal exposure to all types of critical data. Our services will expand as we see gaps and get feedback from site visitors. Today, we offer readers a blend of scientific findings, cutting edge research and interactive participation."
Babel family additionally supports the FA community through newsletters and a range of social channels linked below. For more information, please visit the BabelFAmily website at www.babelfamily.org. Languages supported are: English, Spanish, Italian, French, German, Portuguese, Russian, Turkish, Swedish and Catalan.
