Mary E. Cohen Excels in Medical Insurance Services

Mary E. Cohen, a registered nurse found her niche in insurance services. With 20 years of experience in the healthcare industry, she has worked in the areas of utilization management service, medical coding review and as a customer advocate, aiding patients in their appeal of denied services. As a Program Administrator in the Office of Ethics and Compliance at Excellus BlueCross BlueShield, she is responsible for investigating regulatory inquiries, facilitating corrective actions, and tracking for continued compliance. She also is engaged in assessing and maintaining regulatory governance of vendor operations for outsourced functions. As a young mother, Ms. Cohen made the change from the clinical to corporate setting to provide a regular work schedule as she raised her children. Now as her children are grown, Ms. Cohen is involved in fund raising activities for Vera House, a shelter for victims of domestic violence, and serves on the Auxiliary Board for Community General Hospital. She attributes her success to a team approach to problem solving; her dedication and work ethic; and always paying attention to detail.

Ms. Cohen received her Associate of Applied Science from State University of New York at Morrisville. She is a Fellow of the Academy of Healthcare Management and a certified Healthcare Anti-fraud Associate. She is working toward her certification in Legal Nurse Consulting.
