BELLEVILLE, MI, June 4, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Estefania Viana Furr, Chairwoman of the Special Education Department of South Middle School, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in all aspects of special education.
Estefania Viana Furr has 33 years of professional experience, 30 of which have been in her position at South Middle School. At her post, she specializes in teaching special education and managing administrative duties. She is responsible for managing students with special needs and collaborating with general education teachers, parents and administrators to ensure successful inclusion for at-risk students. In addition to her work at South Middle School, Ms. Furr is a part-time manager for the Fairlane Club in Dearborn, Michigan, where she supervises the athletic department—a post she has held for 10 years. A distinguished award winner, she was included in Who's Who Among American Teachers in 2007 and received a certificate of recognition from The National Teachers Hall of Fame in 2000. Moreover, she received the Special Recognition Award for Support and Contribution to the Wayne County Parent Advisory Committee in 1999 and the Exemplary Service Award from the Van Buren School System in 1990—an honor she considers to be the highlight of her career.
A positive attitude and top-notch problem solving skills are the keys to Ms. Furr's success. She notes that she became involved in her profession because of a desire to work with young people. "Our youth is one of our most precious gifts to be shaped, molded and cherished," says Ms. Furr. Working with students to help them achieve their goals is the most gratifying aspect of her career. She received her Master's Degree in Special Education from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, her Master's Degree in Public Administration from the University of Michigan and a clinical and macro license in social work from the state of Michigan. She is a member of the Learning Disabilities Association of America and the Michigan Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers.
