ContractorLicenseExam.com Announces New Course Curriculum

Licensing class coursework provided for Michigan Residential Contractors and others in the construction industry.

LIVONIA, MI, June 24, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- ContractorLicenseExam.com announced today new and revised curriculum for their Michigan builders license classes, the popular Michigan Builders Pre-licensing Course. The improved contractor licensing curriculum was developed to comply with state requirements and to improve the student experience. The Michigan builders license class is now a sixty-hour course and focuses on providing an educational, interactive and enjoyable experience for students. Visual aids and Powerpoint presentations are also used to help students learn more effectively. The videos use humor and stories so current students can avoid repeating the mistakes of contractors in the industry.

"ContractorLicenseExam.com does everything they can to ensure that their students will pass the Michigan Construction License Test and provide one-on-one tutoring if a student needs additional instruction. Once you are enrolled as a student, you are allowed to sit in on other classes until you are ready to take the test to get your builder's license," said former student, Gregory Pendegraft.

Current chief instructor, Sid Woryn, stated, "In 1982 when I first started teaching the Michigan Builder's Test Prep course, the course was based on knowledge of the occupational law and in-the-field practical experience. Most people studying for the Michigan contractors license were already working in the construction trades and all they wanted at the time was enough knowledge to pass the test. For most of the students, all they needed was enough law and building code knowledge for contractor testing purposes. At that time the course was 24 hours. That's not the case anymore."

In the early 1990's the State of Michigan proposed changes in the licensing requirements due to the number of unlicensed "builders" and an increase in fraudulent schemes related to construction. Through ContractorLicenseExam.com's relationship with the state-licensing department, they understood that an effort was under way to "professionalize" the licensed builder's trade. As a result, ContractorLicenseExam.com, with their online service, encouraged students to get their Michigan builder's license as soon as possible and to tell others of the proposed changes so they could get licensed before the new legislation went into effect. In June of 2008, the new residential builder licensing requirements were mandated by the State of Michigan. More information on Michigan builders license requirements can be found at www.Michigan.gov.

The revised builder's licensing requirements call for a minimum of sixty hours of training in business management, building science, contracts, risk management, marketing, project management, accounting, the Michigan residential code, MIOSHA safety requirements and the Michigan occupational code including lien law. Needless to say, the test is no longer a minimum study prep course. Present day students are urged to study at least one hour for every hour of class time.
