MAPLEWOOD, NJ, June 30, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- What Gifts will 2009 Quarter 4 buyers choose? Advice from a Marketing Expert
This year more than ever before, Holiday Gift Guides will be paying attention to the national news. "Usually we think of gift guides as those beautifully photographed pages in the glossy magazines where ideas from every corner of the marketplace come to our attention. Pure folly.and shopping, of course." Says Amy Bates Stumpf, president and CEO of Gifted Communications, a full service B to B public relations service for the consumer goods industry.
"But this year, the economy is driving journalists to really think about their readership and how that's going to affect their gift giving practices," Mrs. Stumpf continues. "Media outlets do not want to seem insensitive to the national economic climate. Although, most expect consumers will be feeling much better about the situation by December, long lead consumer outlets are planning their stories now. And right now we are seeing a preponderance of "Gifts under $50" and "Gifts that Give Back" themes."
If your product is priced under $50, or even under $25, you have a golden opportunity to play up that pricing. This is the year that your price point will get the attention of media more than ever before. Even if they aren't looking for strict price point guidelines, a pitch that highlights the value of your product for its price will catch their eye. Even the most luxury-oriented media outlets are mentioning value for price.
Additionally, if your brand is involved with a charitable organization it's in your best interest to make this known. Economic downturns hit charitable organizations hard, and the media wants to know about companies that are still making a contribution back to society. Readers feel good about supporting these products and appreciate hearing about them.
The trick is finding these media opportunities. In order to know which outlets to pitch you need to call and find out what they are featuring in their holiday issue.
The Gift List for Holiday interviews thousands of journalists and based on their strict criteria for inclusion in the list, will render this list down to the best holiday media opportunities. Each journalist profile is packed with an abundance of details on what they cover in terms of consumer products, what interests them most, how they like to hear about new products, specifications for sending images, and much more. Of course all the contact information is included in each profile.
