COLUMBUS, OH, July 16, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Ohio Dominican University (ODU) is reintroducing a unique program designed to help veterans achieve their academic goals. The school is hosting a PATRIOTS Day to offer information about the program for interested veterans and their spouses July 25, 2009, from 9:00 a.m. to Noon at the new student center on ODU's campus.
Ohio Dominican first launched its PATRIOTS Program nearly 20 years ago to meet the educational needs of returning Vietnam veterans. The program is being reintroduced in response to a new benefit being offered by the Veterans Benefits Administration beginning August 1 -- the Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2008, also known as the Post-9/11 GI Bill.
"Through ODU's PATRIOTS Program, veterans can pursue an associate's, bachelor's or master's degree at a vet-friendly university with a commitment to quality teaching and learning. We have a history of helping veterans who have served their country start the next chapter of their lives, which often begins with the pursuit of an educational degree," said PATRIOTS Program Director Major General (Ret.) AUS Dennis Laich.
The Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act enables those veterans who qualify for the educational benefit to earn a college degree. Depending on the number of active duty months they have served, Post-9/11 veterans in Ohio may qualify for as much as 100% of their schooling expenses, with generous allowances for monthly living expenses, books and student activity fees. Veterans may receive up to 36 months of entitlement (or four academic years) under the Post-9/11 GI Bill.
PATRIOTS Day, Saturday, July 25 from 9:00 a.m. to Noon on the University's main campus, 1216 Sunbury Road, will be a great opportunity for interested participants to learn more and understand the program. The event will be held in the new Bishop James A. Griffin Student Center. University representatives will be on hand to give a brief presentation about the program, answer questions and provide tours of the campus.
For more information or to register for PATRIOTS Day, contact PATRIOTS Program Director Major General (Ret.) AUS Dennis Laich at 614-251-4500; 1-800-955-OHIO; or [email protected]. More information can be found on Ohio Dominican's PATRIOTS website, www.odupatriots.com.
