These Semi-Finalists were chosen based on popularity, writing quality, adherence to the Contest rules, originality and publishing potential. The current Textnovel Writing Contest ends on August 31st, 2009. Between now and the end of the contest, Semi-Finalists will have the chance to publish new chapters, edit and update existing chapters and take other steps to make sure their story is as good as it can be. During this period, authors can ensure their story meets all of the conditions of the Contest (available at http://www.textnovel.com/contestrules.php) and take steps to help it move up in the Textnovel rankings by getting as many votes as they can prior to the end of the Contest.

Beginning on September 1st, the Textnovel Editorial Board will select 10 Finalists from among these Semi-Finalists (and possibly one other "wild card" story that did not make the Semi-Finalists). After Finalists are announced, they will have the opportunity to submit a bio, a 50 page synopsis of their entire novel and a complete manuscript. The Textnovel Editorial Board plans to announce the winner in early October 2009. The winner will receive $1,000 and have the opportunity to be published by a major publisher or by Textnovel. The 2008 Textnovel Contest Winner signed a 3-book deal with St. Martin's Press.
