BOCA RATON, FL, August 13, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Insights interviewed Colin Powell and his wife Alma on his son's accident while Mr. Powell was a security advisor to President Regan.
In speaking about the respect Americans should have for those who serve, Colin Powell recollects his own thoughts when his son, Michael, was wounded while serving as an armored cavalry officer in the United States Army, stationed in Amberg, Germany. Colin Powell, security advisor to President Regan at the time, said, "I was the deputy national security advisor to President Regan, and my secretary told me that one of my army friends from Germany was calling and he said, "Colin, Michael's been seriously hurt but we don't think he's going to die." And that was a stunning statement." Alma Powell, Colin's wife, stated, "My husband came home from work in the middle of the afternoon; I knew immediately that there was something wrong; our daughters were there and I can see the hurt and the pain on their faces, I remember the younger one just literally sinking to the floor holding her face; all of us not knowing just exactly what had happened but in fear for our boy."
The executive producer stated, "Americans should be more aware of what is happening to our soldiers across the globe. We are thankful for those who serve our country and need to be reminded that they deserve our respect. Even so, we should be more aware as to how our country supports wounded veterans who have served after their tour of duty is over. This is a huge issue and one that Insights will cover to bring educational awareness to this important topic."
Insights is featuring a number of humanitarian stories one of which is the focus on memorials across the nation that bring tribute to wounded veterans.
