The Apothecary of Beauty

Grayson's mixes up home-business success. New England handmade natural bath and body line revives women's' skin care treatments of long ago.

/24-7PressRelease/ - CONCORD, NH - March 13, 2006 - "The apothecary of beauty," is Mindy Schwartz's credo, and that philosophy has enabled her to establish a successful business in Concord, New Hampshire.

Her company, Grayson's, began producing handmade natural bath and body products about a year ago. "The business stemmed from my own need to find beauty items that did not dry out or cause irritating reactions on my sensitive skin." Schwartz began researching the ingredients used to make skin care products and discovered that the only thing natural about them was the use of the word "natural" on the front label. "I could not even pronounce half the chemicals listed, " she said. "I knew I could do better."

She experimented with various herbs, essential oils, and other botanicals to formulate her own recipes. She finally settled on a combination that worked producing a line of herbal cleansers, toners, moisturizing shea butter facial and foot creams, cuticle balm, scrubs, clay masks, and relaxing bath care products.

"I wanted to bring back the days of long ago when women purchased their skin care treatments from apothecary, or chemist shops, that filled wooden bins, spotless white jars, and elixir bottles painted with the old familiar names of flowers and plants. With Grayson's, I could revive those traditions by making our cosmetic ingredients as pure as possible without the use of strong, harsh chemicals or synthetic scents. Even the packaging reflects that time period as well," she explained.

This has become quite apparent in her most popular item, Parsley Leaf Blemish Pads. "I call it a toner with a twist," explains Schwartz. "Instead of the usual alcohol or witch hazel ingredients that immediately dry out your skin or cause an overproduction of sebum (oil), I created a dry toner and acne spot treatment strictly from herbs, tea tree essential oil, jojoba, and vitamin E packaged in 100% natural, unbleached packets that deep clean and tighten pores, just like any liquid toner, once activated under water."

It seems to be catching on, because in a short period of time the business has thrived, thanks to loyal customers, retail owners, and the Internet. Grayson's staff has grown to include three new employees, which include family and friends. "The best part is my new employees are all my product testers, so training is minimal. We all put in long hours, but it is well worth the work to do something positive for others, and it shows by the very nice praise we receive from our customers," said Schwartz.

How did the Grayson name come about? "Grayson, actually, was the name of the lane my grandmother lived on. She told me the only way to be happy in life was to start your own business. I loved her dearly, so I dedicate this business to her and the happy childhood memories I spent with her on Grayson Lane.

So, what is on the horizon for Grayson's? "Well in the long term, we hope to keep growing and thriving in this niche market. In the short term, we will be introducing our new lines of baby care and sun care, as well as an independent consultant program. Regardless of how we grow, we believe in providing our customers with personalized attention, answering their questions and concerns, as well as, educating them. We don't just sell products - we explain why you should consider trying them to help preserve the integrity of your skin."
