COLUMBUS, OH, October 12, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Fresh Start Bariatrics at Riverside Methodist Hospital separates itself from other bariatric programs by focusing on a holistic, comprehensive approach to ensure patients' ongoing success. Surgery is often disputed as a successful option to lose weight, but Dr. Stephen Myers shares why weight loss surgery can be the best solution for many people.
Dr. Myers, who founded Fresh Start Bariatrics six years ago, believes that persons of size are an overlooked demographic in our culture. Therefore, at the initial seminar, Dr. Myers meets patients and discusses all three weight loss surgery options offered by Fresh Start Bariatrics. From there, he helps patients personally identify what option is right for them.
"Patients have a chance to ask me questions at the seminar; a lot of questions are asked publically, but more private topics, I discuss one-on-one with patients," Dr. Myers said. "I answer all the questions because I want patients to understand our focus at Fresh Start Bariatrics is not to move as many people as possible through this program. Our focus is to get them the personalized care they need to be successful."
Dr. Myers said bariatric operations have become increasingly successful, especially in robust, comprehensive programs, like Fresh Start Bariatrics. "A bariatric operation is as safe as having a knee replacement or galbladder operation. I think it's unfortunate that more people don't see it as a viable option. It's the best tool to lose a significant amount of weight, keep it off long-term and solve medical problems, which can be extremely severe."
Fresh Start Bariatrics heavily emphasizes the importance of finding the weight loss option that fits patients' lifestyle and needs best, and they work with patients individually to find that solution. "You have to consider your lifestyle after surgery, and decide what surgery solves your individual medical problems," Dr. Myers said. "We try to make the program as convenient and efficient as possible; we even take the responsibility of getting all the medical details and insurance information squared away for patients."
