/24-7PressRelease/ - SURREY, UK, March 23, 2006 - Lloyd's Register produces both print and online versions of this mission critical publication and has identified a requirement for a more robust structure for content as well as single-source publishing.
Mekon's solution replaces an existing custom DTD with the military technical publishing standard ASD S1000D. The solution also integrates online and print publishing content into a single-source, thereby replacing a manual DTP process for print versions with fully automated multi-channel publishing.
"We chose Mekon due to their in-depth knowledge of both single-source publishing and the S1000D specification. We felt confident that their independence as integrators would add an unbiased and thoroughly flexible approach to our custom solution". Darren Berwick, Lloyd's Register
S1000D was chosen by the client due to the inherent advantages of authoring in a modular environment eliminating unnecessary information duplication. Using a well established international standard reduces their work load and risk because the DTD and Schemas are already independently maintained.
"S1000D was designed for use with highly complex machinery, where a single error can have fatal repercussions on human life. Lloyd's Register's choice of the S1000D standard shows a real commitment to truly robust documentation". Julian Murfitt Mekon Ltd
As well as replacing the existing DTD with the more suitable S1000D, Mekon will develop XSLT transformations for Arbortext's E3 publishing engine to enable output to print and online help. Mekon's solution will ensure Lloyd's Register can reap the benefits of single-source publishing whilst ensuring its documentation is published to the most robust standard currently available.
Mekon are XML publishing integration specialists with more than 15 years experience in single-source multi-channel publishing, document workflow design, information architecture, and standards such as ASD S1000D, ATA 2200iSpec, DocBook and DITA. We help organisations leverage the potential of XML for their content creation, review, management and publishing processes.
