MIAMI BEACH, FL, December 10, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Rejection is an unfortunate part of being in relationships and many people handle break ups in different ways. This past weekend, Alexa Ray Joel reportedly tried to committed suicide because of her ex-boyfriend, while leading celebrity Owen Wilson attempted suicide two years ago allegedly over his breakup with Kate Hudson. Last month, leading online dating websites Date.com (www.date.com), Matchmaker.com (www.matchmaker.com), and Amor.com (www.amor.com), polled its members to see how they handle rejection and relationships.
Surprisingly, 85.0% of men admitted to falling into depression after a break up and needing to find the courage to try dating again, as compared to only 8.0% of women. Meanwhile, 75.5% of women had a healthier attitude towards breakups, preferring to take time to cope with the hurt before trying to date again, as compared to 11.0% of men. Fortunately, only 6.5% of women went the stereotypical route of gorging on ice cream and watching chick flicks to get over a breakup, while 1.0% of men admitted to using promiscuous sex, random one night stands and drinking binges to deal with a bad breakup.
In a new nationwide survey of thousands of male and female online daters, ranging in ages from 18-55+, we asked: Rejection is an unfortunate part of dating and relationships. How do you deal with rejection?
