LOS ANGELES, CA, December 17, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Breakdown Services, the online network studios use to communicate their casting needs to talent agents, is a contributor to this year's Australians in Film 2010 Heath Ledger Scholarship. The award was set up in 2008 in the late actor's honor to provide Australian actors in the early stage of their careers the chance to travel to the United States to further their training and international acting opportunities. Along with their Australian partner Showcast, the entertainment communications network will donate its services as part of the prize to be awarded to a winner determined by a judging panel which includes actor Jude Law.
Besides $10,000 and a trip to L.A., the winner will receive a five-minute actor demo reel and a lifetime membership to Actors Access, the actor's online submission site. The demo reel will be posted on Actors' Access site for consideration by L.A. agents, managers and casting directors. Breakdown will schedule meetings between the recipient and major casting directors, publicizing the winner to all L.A. casting directors and agents via their network. Breakdown Services' partner, Showcast, will include a complimentary listing in Showcast's online and print publications as well as free media exposure online on Showcast into the prize package.
Further, Breakdown is offering to facilitate the promotion of the winners on the Virtual Channel Network (VCN). VCN, one of Breakdown's various companies, offers programming for the entertainment industry. VCN is Breakdown's unique web portal that is exclusively for the entertainment community. It offers educational videos starring some of the entertainment industry's most notable casting directors, agents, managers and studio personnel. All segments are available on-demand and free of charge.
VCN is pleased to offer the scholarship recipient the opportunity to be interviewed on-camera about their career aspirations by one of Hollywood's top casting directors, Randi Hiller. Hiller has cast some of the biggest films in the business, such as In the Bedroom, Iron Man 1 and 2 and Crash. She is honored to take part in this scholarship program, as she knew Ledger personally and helped him find employment after he first arrived in the U.S.
The Australians in Film Heath Ledger Scholarship is named for the late actor. He was both an ambassador and supporter of organization. Applications have closed and the winner and finalists will be announced in February 2009 at an event in Los Angeles.
