Ace of Cakes stars to appear at Home & Garden Show

    COLUMBUS, OH, January 14, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Guests will learn the inside secrets from America's favorite cake shop when stars of Food Network's Ace of Cakes, Geof Manthorne and Mary Alice Yeskey, appear at the 2010 Central Ohio Home & Garden Show, presented by PNC. Manthorne and Yeskey will take the Home Idea Center Stage at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, March 7, 2010, followed by questions and autographs. Later in the day, the pair will judge the show's Professional Wedding Cake Competition, featuring a $5,000 grand prize.

Food Network's hit show Ace of Cakes takes viewers behind the scenes, where the uber-talented team is at work at Baltimore's Charm City Cakes. Baking and decorating up to 20 amazing cakes every week, the team undergoes enormous stress as they ensure that each cake is perfect when it leaves the shop and arrives at its destination. Some cakes take more than 25 hours to complete. Employing significant skill and determination, the staff prides itself on the fact that no cake is impossible to create. With the enormous popularity of Ace of Cakes, Charm City Cakes has gone from a small, unknown kitchen to a world-wide phenomenon.

Best known for his dry sense of humor and impressive abilities as the Executive Sous Chef and project lead on Ace of Cakes, Geof Manthorne started his career as an architectural model builder. With an eye for detail and a natural talent for baking and decorating, Manthorne quickly became a fan favorite on the show. Most recently, he contributed as both an author and a consultant on the newly released book Ace of Cakes: Inside the World of Charm City Cakes. Growing up in southeastern Pennsylvania, Manthorne lives in Baltimore and is a singer and songwriter when on hiatus from the show.

Mary Alice Fallon Yeskey also plays a key role in Ace of Cakes, serving as the company's manager. Always working to make sure Chef Duff Goldman stays out of trouble, and efforting to keep the rest of the team on task, Yeskey is the eyes and ears of Charm City Cakes. Yeskey grew up in Gaithersburg, Maryland and earned degrees at both University of Maryland and University of Baltimore. She lives in Northeast Baltimore with her husband, dog and bird.

The Central Ohio Home & Garden Show opens Saturday, February 27, and runs through Sunday, March 7 at the Ohio Expo Center. Show hours are Saturdays 10 a.m. - 9 p.m.; Sundays 11 a.m. - 6 p.m.; CLOSED MONDAY, Tuesday and Thursday 3 p.m. - 9 p.m.; and Wednesday and Friday Noon - 9 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults.
