WASHINGTON, DC, January 14, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The United Nations Foundation announced today that Aaron Sherinian has joined the organization as its Executive Director of Communications and Public Affairs. In this role, he will lead the foundation's public relations efforts, media relationships, strategic outreach, and continue to build its on-line presence.
"Innovative solutions to the world's problems require innovative ways to communicate about them, and that's why we're pleased to have Aaron Sherinian join our team," said UN Foundation President Timothy E. Wirth. "Aaron's experience in finding new ways to talk about issues like global health, sustainable development, empowering women and girls, and climate change and the environment will help us energize the conversation about the UN and the U.S.-UN relationship."
Sherinian worked for over a decade to help government agencies strengthen their public messaging about international issues. His new assignment with the UN Foundation includes an aggressive plan to help the organization strengthen its relationships with new and non-traditional media to highlight how the foundation connects resources, ideas, and people to UN causes. In this new role, he will manage a strong team of communications and public affairs professionals with a proven track record of building and implementing successful public affairs campaigns.
"I am proud to be part of an organization that recognizes that today's pressing global challenges require us to work together as a global community," said Sherinian. "There are meaningful, tangible ways for people to get involved in their world today and I look forward to being part of the UN Foundation at this exciting time in its history."
Prior to joining the UN Foundation, Sherinian served as Managing Director for Public Affairs at the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), a U.S. Government agency dedicated to global poverty reduction and long-term economic growth partnerships. He specialized in communications and international development issues during a decade of public service with the U.S. State Department as a member of the Foreign Service, with experience in Ecuador, Armenia, and Costa Rica. His career includes experience in marketing and volunteer service in Italy. He is a member of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) and the National Association of Government Communicators (NAGC).
