OCALA, FL, February 08, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The tragedy of the earthquake that struck Haiti on Jan. 12 is beyond comprehension. With more than 100,000 people dead, and hundreds of thousands more homeless, the toll in human suffering is unimaginable.
The devastation has made an indelible impression on all Americans, even the youngest. Many people want to help in a tangible way. Individuals are pooling their contributions to multiply the impact of their individual donations.
For students at many U.S. schools, one popular way to raise both funds for Haitian relief and to help keep awareness of the ongoing crisis in the forefront of public consciousness has been through the sale of Haiti-related silicone wristbands.
Direct Wristbands has received orders from dozens of student groups ranging from elementary through high school. With orders ranging from 200 to 2,000, students are doing their part to raise money to help Haiti rebuild.
Obviously, no one is claiming that selling custom wristbands will generate enough funds to rebuild Haiti. The need is too great, the devastation too severe. But the simple fact is that wristbands have one of the highest per-unit profit margins of any common fundraising item. Even the youngest students can make a significant contribution that WILL help Haitians in need.
For example, 500 basic wristbands, with a message of support for Haiti pressed into the silicone, will cost $0.27 each, for a total of $135. Student groups that sell those 500 bands for $2 each will net $865 to donate to the relief charity of their choice. If students sell the wristbands for $5 each, they can donate $2,365.
Even better, the cost per wristband decreases as the order quantity goes up. A school group that orders 5,000 custom silicone wristbands will pay only $0.15 each, for a total of $750. If they sell those bands on campus or at after school events for $2 each, they'll net $9,250 for Haitian relief.
Every wristband sold also serves as a reminder to others of the help Haiti so desperately needs. The custom wristbands will help keep people aware of the ongoing emergency as the earthquake and its aftermath gradually fades from the daily news broadcasts and blogs. The need won't stop when the pictures go away. Neither should the help. America's young people are making sure that it won't.
