NAPLES, ITALY, February 24, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The archaeological site of Pompeii has been named a wonder of the world by one internet resource, which is within easy reach of visitors to Napoli.
People can expect to be offered a unique glimpse into what life was like during the times of the Romans, when they head down to the area, which was preserved by a blanket of six metres of ash and rock in 79 AD when Vesuvius erupted.
Now, famouswonders.com has placed the ruins at number 13 on its list of 100 wonders around the world, which suggests that people staying in Naples hotels may enjoy taking a look around.
"The Pompeii can be considered the only archaelogical site which gives the real image of roman city. And the image is similar to cities, not preserved, of the same period," explained the Soprintendenza Archeologica de Pompei.
Currently, the site is open from 08:30 to 17:00 (local time) with the last party admitted at 15:30, but from April to October this is extended so the attraction closes at 19:30.
A full price ticket is EUR11 and keen historians may consider purchasing the EUR20 pass that gives them access to Herculaneum, Oplontis, Stabiae and Boscoreale, as well as Pompeii.
Travellers will not find it hard to reach the site, as buses and trains can be taken from the centre of Naples.
Jessica Reading, head of marketing for LateRooms, commented: "Demand for Pompeii is always significant and we recommend that anyone considering attending should book their hotel Napoli as early as possible."
