GREENBELT, MD, March 12, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The National Association of Counties' (NACo) Health Reform Steering Committee convened on March 7, 2010, during the Annual NACo Legislative Conference. Bradford L. Seamon, president and CEO of B L Seamon Corporation (BLS), was given an opportunity to address the Committee. The Committee's discussion began with a keynote address by Dr. Wendell Primus, Senior Health Policy Advisor to Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, on the current status of health care reform as well as the focus on health care cost and access. Mr. Seamon's discussion, titled "Electronic Medical and Health Records: Why, How and Now" followed.

Mr. Seamon shared with the Committee the benefits of using electronic medical records (EMRs). County officials were afforded the opportunity to brainstorm on how to cope with shrinking revenues and increasing demands for services by leveraging technology in community health care. EHR and telemedicine was a recurring theme throughout the conference. When speaking about healthcare reform, Mr. Seamon highlighted that, "While health care insurance reform is currently being debated, health care delivery reform is well under way via health information technology."

Mr. Seamon continued with information on Federal resources for EHR and EMR adoption among physicians and physician groups, such as the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid (CMS) Incentive Program, Regional Extension Centers, Workforce Development Grants, and State Health Information Exchange (HIE) grants.

BLS' work assisting Federal Agencies and other organizations with the promotion and integration of health information technology (HIT) has prompted the development of innovative communications strategies and building of relationships with thought leaders and subject matter experts in the field. "Our team has helped conduct a variety of health and human service initiatives to meet global medical, economic, communication, technology, and education needs--this conference is another example of our commitment to empowering communities," stated Mr. Seamon. The BLS team works to bring together HIT vendors, clinicians, the patient community, and care delivery organizations nationwide while improving the rate of EHR and electronic medical record (EMR) adoption nationwide.
