If Only 1% of 'Twitterers' Used XTRER, It Would Generate More Than $1 Million For Charities Every Month

That surprising fact heralds the launch of philanthropic venture XTRER, a mobile billing and applications provider whose aim is to generate millions of dollars for charitable purposes by monetizing multimedia mobile content for the masses.

KRABI, THAILAND, March 26, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The company is the brainchild of Simon Luttrell, a former rocket scientist who has been innovating in the mobile sector since 1999. His previous ventures include Fonedata, (sold to Psion plc), Link77 (who developed the Artificial Intelligence SMS chat service called Natachata), and Mobile Crazy TV (an SMS-to-TV channel on the Sky satellite bouquet).

Simon retired to live in rural Thailand several years ago, but his personal experiences in south-east Asia has prompted him to use his skills to develop an accessible solution for monetizing mobile content in the global arena. The XTRER platform offers 'channels' of daily content to subscribers, at a price that is chosen by the channel owner of between 10-34 cents per day. Subscriber billing is hassle-free with on-phone SMS billing by the subscriber's mobile network.

The content channels could be a horoscope, football team blog, weather report, share price, recipe tips, health advice - in short, any type of legal content that has a value to another person. A new channel can be created within a few minutes using the online tool, with no technical knowledge required and - best of all- no set-up fees or monthly charges. This makes it truly accessible on a global basis. A revenue-generating channel could be created by a Fortune 500 company in New York, or by a peasant farmer in India. Xtrer provides local access numbers in a growing number of countries so that content providers can easily add and update their channels.

Subscribers can join their chosen channel by simply texting the channel name to XTRER's short-code number. Currently, the XTRER platform is live for channel subscribers on 10 of the major mobile networks in the U.S., and is being rolled out in Australia and the UK within the next few weeks. Luttrell also has plans to offer subscriber access in developing countries, so that local language content channels in can be operated within that region.

So what is the philanthropic link?

Channel owners can donate a specified % of the revenue earned from their subscribers to a nominated charity, or for general charitable distribution. The amount that they donate could be anything between 0% and 100% - it's totally up to them. XTRER then adds a bonus by donating to these charities a figure between 10 and 100% of the profit that they earn from each channel subscriber.

Luttrell explains the concept 'When a subscriber joins any content channel, in the first month of their subscription, we will donate 10% of the profits we earn from that subscriber. For every month that they stay subscribed, we'll increase our donation by 10%. After 10 months, we will be donating 100% of the profit that we earn from that subscriber'.

Channel owners submit their daily content to the XTRER platform by a variety of methods. Some choose to log into their accounts from their desktop PCs, others choose to originate their content by text message, whilst others can automatically submit their content using the XTRER API. In all cases, these content messages are carefully checked for inappropriate wording before being sent to the mobile phones of channel subscribers. 'Spamming' subscribers with multiple messages is not possible, since the XTRER platform restricts sending to a single message per day. The platform also allows channels to offer photos and photo albums that can be viewed on the mobile browser, linking to Google Maps to indicate where the photo was taken.

Luttrell commented 'Social networks such as Twitter are an ideal source of authors for new channel content, so we also offer the facility to 'pair' your XTRER channel with your Twitter account. You can then send out your daily content messages directly from your Twitter account. It's all about offering flexible solutions for our channel owners and channel subscribers, so that new revenue-generating channels can be offered'.

That statement by Luttrell strongly reflects the company slogan 'A little XTRER helps'. To date, Luttrell has been working alone to develop and launch the XTRER platform. 'Now that we are live in the U.S. and going live in 2 other continents, I could do with some help to manage the business! I'm especially keen to bring on board a resourceful marketing manager, a Spanish-speaking Account Manager for Central/South America roll-out, and those with experience of managing charity accounts and donations'. Luttrell confirmed that he is also willing to consider outright acquisition or investment funding.
