SANTA BARBARA, CA, April 10, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- When Lindy and Jack Noe joined America's empty nester club, they found themselves dealing with the familiar housing challenge: how to downsize when the kids leave--without feeling as if you are making a huge sacrifice when bidding adieu to the big family home. And for the Noes, big meant big, as they sought alternatives to a 5,000-square foot custom design they had built in California's Ventura County and lived in for 10 years.
"We loved our home in North Ranch but with our two kids in college in Santa Barbara, reducing our overhead and saving on energy costs were goals of the new home search," said Lindy. "Yet we also wanted to stay in this area.
"Our Realtor had already purchased at Cherry Hill and had a great experience with Pardee Homes," she added. "And we knew and liked Pardee's Chambord and Regency Hills homes in Oak Park, so we were quite willing to come have a look at Cherry Hill and Moorpark Highlands.
"We decided to buy at Cherry Hill because we could get more house for the money, and still be close to our work," said Lindy, who has worked at Oak Park and Thousand Oaks High and is researching business opportunities in the Moorpark area. Husband Jack owns Oak Asset Management, a financial advisory firm in Westlake Village. "Also because we loved the Plan Two--it addressed every concern we had about moving to a smaller home."
Plan Two is one of three designs at Cherry Hill, where pricing is from the high $600,000s for detached homes of approximately 2,601 to 3,479 square feet of living space plus a two-bay plus swing or three-bay tandem garage. The two-story plans include 3 to 5 bedrooms and 3 to 4 baths, plus design flexibility that has proven particularly pleasing to Lindy and Jack.
Plan Two supplies approximately 2,918 square feet of living space, less than 60 percent of the space in the Noes' previous home. And yet?
"It's ideal for our empty-nest lifestyle," said Lindy, who was delighted to list the many reasons she and Jack embraced this design. http://www.pardeehomes.com/moorpark-highlands/cherry-hill/floorplans/plan-2/
"We have a nice open flowing first floor with a combination living/dining area which is great for entertaining.
"We have never before had a dedicated guest room, so the downstairs bedroom with adjacent bath is ideal when our parents visit or when a friend decides to spend the night.
"We love our gorgeous master with balcony. It is like going to a beautiful hotel with a view, and the upstairs loft is our nightly retreat, were we enjoy the surround sound for watching TV.
"I have never before had an upstairs laundry room and I just love it! It is so convenient--plus it accommodates a little refrigerator for snacks and drinks for our adjacent loft/media room.
"The two additional upstairs bedrooms are perfect for when our college kids decide to pay us a visit (and they love this house!), yet it can also serve as an office and for extra storage.
"All in all, it works for us perfectly," Lindy concluded. "I think my husband or I say at least once a day: 'I love this house!'"
The beauty and setting of Moorpark Highlands also found favor. "Moorpark Highlands is great, nicely appointed and nicely maintained," said Lindy. "We have never lived in a gated community before, and we are enjoying the ambiance it provides—and the pool centers are great for meeting other neighbors or entertaining a group."
The Noes are also delighted with Moorpark Highlands, saying the community meets all their needs. "This is just a quick jump to either the 118 or 23 Freeway--my husband has an easy, quick trip on the 23 to his office," said Lindy. "And I can't fail to mention that almost anything you need can be found on Los Angeles Avenue or at the nearby Costco, Walmart or Simi Town Center. Everything is incredibly convenient!"
The Noes began their home ownership with a fixer upper, but since then, every home has been a new one, with Cherry Hill their third new home. "We prefer to have the chance to select options and decorate and landscape from scratch," said Lindy.
Which brings a home shopper to the final, and possibly the biggest questions of all: who is your builder and what kind of service can you expect? Ask Lindy Noe.
"The sales staff were always available and helpful in providing details on the opening of phases, pricing, options and anything else we wanted to know," said Lindy. "Jennie Rickert in Pardee's Design Center was incredible in detailing the choices we had and helping us to make great decisions that fit within our budget.
"We are so pleased with everything we selected, from natural stone flooring, to our incredible wrought iron staircase, our loft's light-blocking shutters and the custom glasswork we chose for our master bath shower and windows over the bathtub," she added.
"Pat Stone at Holiday Flooring was also so knowledgeable and helpful in all our flooring selections, which is a big chunk of upgrade expenses, so this is very important, and we couldn't be happier with the finished results," said Lindy.
Pardee Homes' Customer Service Department earned equal praise. "Bob Speilman and Albert Garcia were phenomenal in walking the home and attending to any minor items on the spot," said Lindy. "Any items that came to our attention after the close of escrow were promptly and expertly handled, with the utmost respect for our time and our privacy. And our escrow, which was handled through Pardee Home Loans, was our smoothest ever, going off without a hitch."
