It is the same with our carpet choice; maybe we cannot afford to kit our house out with Sea grass but maybe we can use non-chemical based glues throughout the fitting process or try and find a sofa that uses biodegradable materials. The effort you go to in order to ensure that you dispose of your old sofa or carpet in the right way is likely to greatly outweigh buying the latest green product on the market.

As is the case with all purchasing decisions, they all make a difference to the farmers, manufacturers, and businesses that are behind them. If you buy commercial cotton you are supporting an unsustainable and harmful farming technique, whereas if you buy naturally farmed cotton you are supporting sustainable processes and pushing the market in the right direction.

It is important to realise that the companies you buy from and the purchases you make will influence future decisions. It may be that the one thousand pounds you spent on eco products is the decisive factor that makes a sofa brand introduce a new eco range.
