BERLIN, GERMANY, April 29, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Legendary singer and guitarist Mark Knopfler will be playing in Berlin as part of his European tour on June 18th.
The former Dire Straits man is known for his distinctive finger-picking guitar style and 1980s hits such as Sultans of Swing, Romeo and Juliet and Money for Nothing.
For fans of Knopfler using hotels in Berlin, the concert at the O2 World should also provide an opportunity to hear some of his more recent solo material, including recent album Get Lucky.
Released in September 2009, the record is his sixth long-player as a solo artist and features songs such as Hard Shoulder, Cleaning My Gun and So Far from the Clyde.
Knopfler was born in Glasgow but brought up in Newcastle from the age of eight, when his family moved to the north-east of England. He formed Dire Straits with his brother David in 1977 after relocating to London.
The 60-year-old recently told his official website that he still enjoys pleasing the crowd with his former band's old hits, as well as being proud of his solo compositions.
"Obviously I'll play them differently here and there to keep it alive and meaningful to me, and away from a cabaret thing," he explained.
"I like playing the old songs, I wrote them and people like to hear them, it's as simple as that."
Known for combining catchy songs with technical brilliance, Knopfler was ranked at number 27 in Rolling Stone magazine's 100 greatest guitarists of all time list.
Tickets for his Berlin show are priced between EUR54.90 and EUR71 (GBP47.50 and GBP61.50).
The O2 World is one of the city's newest indoor concert arenas and has a capacity of 17,000 people.
If you're heading to the Mark Knopfler concert this year, we strongly advise that you book your hotels Berlin as soon as possible, given the huge popularity of the event.
