SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA, April 30, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Yusuf Islam is set to play live in Sydney for the first time in 36 years when his latest tour begins in June.
The artist formerly known as Cat Stevens has announced a seven-city trip around Australia and New Zealand, which includes two nights at the Sydney Entertainment Centre.
Taking place on June 21st and 23rd, these concerts will give local fans and people using Sydney hotels an opportunity to hear some of the singer-songwriter's classic hits.
After a long period of musical inactivity following his high-profile conversion to Islam, the artist has gradually returned to the public eye in recent years.
Roadsinger, the second album to appear since Yusuf re-launched his music career, was released in May 2009.
However, many fans will be hoping to hear some of the performer's much-loved Cat Stevens material from the early 1970s, such as Father and Son, Moonshadow, Wild World and Peace Train, when he plays in Sydney.
Yusuf converted to Islam in 1977 at the height of his fame, following a near-death experience while swimming off the coast of California.
He adopted the name Yusuf in 1978 and abandoned his music career the following year to concentrate on religious and charitable work.
Tickets for the Sydney performances, which will get underway at 19:30 local time, are priced between AU$119 and AU$199.
