BILBAO, SPAIN, April 30, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- If travellers want a unique experience during their stay at Bilbao hotels then they could travel to a small town near Burgos to experience the Baby-Jumping Colacho Festival.
This event involves a man dressed as the devil taking a running jump over a collection of babies lying on a mattress in the street.
It all takes place in a small town called Castillo de Murica and has been organised by the Santisimo Sacramento de Minerva brotherhood for centuries as part of the nationwide Corpus Christi celebrations.
Current members of this society take it upon themselves to keep the tradition going and may even chase onlookers if they do something inappropriate during the festivities.
"It is believed that as the incarnate devils jump they take all their evil with them and the children are cleansed," explained What's on When.
Writing for World Reviewer, Fabian Condello described the event as one of the weirdest occasions in the Spanish calendar, but stressed that one of the brotherhood that organises the Colacho reassured him that no baby has ever been injured during the procedure.
This bizarre festival take place on June 6th and is free to view, although travellers will need to check local tourist offices for the exact time that the festivities will go ahead.
If you're heading to the Baby-Jumping Colacho Festival this year, we strongly advise that you book your hoteles Bilbao as soon as possible, given the huge popularity of the event.
