BALTIMORE, MD, June 12, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- After an extended post-production process, the highly anticipated independent feature, The Photon Effect will premiere at the Waterfront Film Festival (www.waterfrontfilm.org) in Saugatuck, Michigan (June 11 - 13). The superhero-driven film is the brainchild of Baltimore Filmmaker Dan Poole, who is best known for his cult hit The Green Goblin's Last Stand.
The Photon Effect introduces the world to a new and unexpected superhero, Photon: The Human Antenna. But every hero faces villains, and in this case, the villain is the very person this hero has spent a lifetime trying to help. Photon's alter ego, Communication Engineer Derek Powers, and his partner and cousin, Jay Powers, are nearly killed when a malfunction occurs while they are working on an experimental antenna 200 feet off the ground. The two are determined to find out what went wrong, and their quest sends them straight to the antenna's manufacturer, Randall Communications, Inc. (RCI). Instead of getting answers, however, they enter a world of confusion and intrigue that ultimately pits the two close-knit cousins against one another. Jay is sucked into RCI's devious experiments and is "dosed" with superhuman strength that he uses for evil purposes, while Derek uses his acquired powers - superhuman speed and the ability to emit electromagnetic energy (which he obtains through a second antenna accident) - to protect the City of Baltimore and to try to save his cousin.
Through vivid storytelling, well-crafted special effects, and Hollywood-caliber sound design and music, the film poses these compelling questions: What would you do if the person closest to you was headed down a path that you knew would lead to ultimate destruction? How far would you go to save him? And how far would he go to resist?
Filmmaker Poole: "I have a sincere love of good stories with good characters and I feel like I've finally created a character that has the qualities that are not only most attractive to me, personally, but are what I believe audiences will relate to," he says. "Now I want to find out if my instinct is right and if this original superhero will be as appealing to them as he is to me."
"Dan is the most resourceful person I know and understands how to take whatever little he has to draw from to make big things happen," says Producer Douglas Adams. "On top of that, he has an incredible gift of storytelling, and an incredible ability to inspire and excite people. The Photon Effect is the proof."
