Parrot AR Drone Helicopters Now Available For Preorder

News of the release of the Parrot AR Drone which is to come later this week. This product was a smash hit at the CES Expo in Las Vegas and is now finally hitting the shelves. Learn where to get your hands on what is considered a personal "UAV".

TALLAHASSEE, FL, September 08, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Parrot, the wireless electronics giant based out of Paris, France, announced the AR.Drone back in January 2010, and the company has finally pushed the device off the presses. Now available for pre-order, the Parrot AR.Drone is already attracting much of the consumer attention. A new website has even been launched in order to show consumers everything important about this new device - including when and where it can be purchased.

The Augmented Reality Drone has been designed to be one of the most powerful device of its kind. Capable of flying just like a real helicopter, the AR Drone Helicopters have one major advantage over any similar product - the addition of an augmented reality Interface, as provided by the device's controller - an iPhone, iPod, or iPad.

Parrot's AR Drone has been designed to send data back and forth between the iProduct and the Drone it self. Using the iProduct's graphical interface, the user can see much more than they would if they were looking up - fighting robots, other drones, and much more. Two games are included with the Drone out of the box, but the open source API will be lent to developers in order to remain flexible. The sheer amount of possible games that could ultimately come from this device are infinite in scope.

Though already available for pre-order, the Parrot AR.Drone will be made readily available on September 9th. On the day of its release, the Parrot AR.Drone will be sold online through a variety of merchants, including Amazon. The Drone is priced at $299 and comes with two hulls, the battery, the charger, a guidebook, and a set of decorative stickers.

Requiring an iProduct is seemingly the only downside of this new device, according to the new informative site, ARDroneHelicopters.com. Any of the devices under the i family, including the iPhone, iPad, and iPod, must be used to control the Drone. For those who already have one of these devices, this is no problem, but those who lack an iProduct must purchase one in addition to the AR.Drone. Due to the Drone's software being open source, it is likely that the device will soon be open to other devices - the Android and WebOS are likely to be incorporated by an apt developer. All this and more is covered in the Parrot AR Drone FAQs on the site.

Those interested in purchasing the Drone must do so quickly, as the product is likely to sell out. Many land based stores have already moved each of their products through pre-orders, so hopeful consumers are encouraged to order their AR.Drone while supplies last. The site, ARDroneHelicopters, is likely to lead to an unlimited number Drones as they can tell you exactly where to buy a AR Drone. Supplies are likely to not run out, and direct links to the product can be found. For the face value of the product, the Drone can be purchased directly through this site.
