GOLD COAST, AUSTRALIA, November 26, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The 2010 Gold Coast International Chess Festival will see lovers of the sport head to Surfers Paradise hotels en masse in the run-up to the new year.
Taking place at Kurrawa Surf Club, the event will be held from December 26th to 30th and is sure to encourage some of Australia's best players to book the 5 star hotels Gold Coast has available at the time.
It will take the form of an open tournament, with rated and unrated entrants welcomed to take part and battle it out for their share of the prize money.
Although competitors will no doubt be eager to win for personal pride, the cash at stake will provide an extra incentive for people to be at the top of their game. The overall winner will pocket a generous A$1,500, with second, third and fourth receiving A$500, A$300 and A$200 respectively.
So that unrated participants do not feel left out, the top three players in this category will bag a combined prize fund of A$450.
People planning to stay in Gold Coast hotels for the occasion must pay A$120 to enter, with the proceedings kicking off at 11:30 local time on the first day.
More than 40 competitors have so far registered for the festival.
