Denver Photographer Describes Advantages of Winter Weddings

If you're getting married in an area that will probably have snow on the ground, this can create visual interest in your pictures, notes Kelly, a Denver event planning expert. Snow will soften the contours of buildings and greenery, generates a sense of serenity, and a photo of a bride and groom strolling through the snow can be beautiful.

Winter lighting tends to be more subtle, so look for a photographer with winter wedding experience. In winter, photographers may also have to handle an overcast sky or glare from snow. Winter days are also shorter. If you're planning on outside pictures, you'll want to take them before the sun starts setting. Also, your indoor ceremony may not have sufficient natural light, so your photographer may need to provide additional illumination, says the Denver photography consultant.

Many couples choose wintry decor with shades of silver, pale blue, and gold. However, recently some clients have preferred bright splashes of color. "We have had couples with Christmas weddings who used vivid red or green for accent colors," remarks Kelly, a Denver wedding planner.
If you want to take outdoor pictures, "be sure the bride has a cape or jacket that goes with her gown," advises Kelly, a Denver wedding photographer. And, if you might have snow outside, "only use the sandals inside," suggests Kelly.
