Christian Women's Ministry is getting ready for Christmas!
/24-7PressRelease/ - ROGERSVILLE, TN, October 31, 2006 - Marjorie Woods, the Director of the Christian Women's Ministry says: "Feed the lambs is part of the ministry of the Christian Women's Ministry. Every other week the children will get a snack bag filled with healthy snacks. This is a free gift to the children."
Christian Women's Ministry was born on April 4, 2004 to meet an overwhelming need for service to the elderly in our community. Marjorie Woods was asked by an organization that works with the needy if she could provide lunch for two elderly people. Marjorie thought this would be a one-shot obligation but was she ever wrong! Upon delivering her meal, she discovered an elderly woman who was mentally challenged and handicapped living in an apartment with no bed and the only furnishings a broken couch, a broken kitchen chair, and a small table. She used a box in front of the couch to hold books. The second person served was a man in a wheelchair. He could not reach the countertop to make himself a sandwich or even a cup of coffee. Needless to say, there were more stories like these.
Marjorie turned to God for the answers. Could Marjorie possible feed these people on a regular basis? She called a couple of friends and they started taking lunches to these elderly on a regular basis. They often stayed to minister to their spiritual needs as well.
The Ministry Grows
As word of their ministry spread they were given the names of other elderly with needs. Through the generous contributions from friends, businesses, and organizations, Marjorie and her friends have built a ministry that feed over 300 meals from April through December 2004. There were 50 or more people helped with utility bills and more than 100 people received furniture, boxes of food and clothing. There were 30 individuals in 2005 that received a home cooked meal, some every day of the week.
The ministry opened a small gift shop and a thrift store in April of 2005 to fun their work and Praise God, it has grown and to gain more space has moved to a bigger building to allow for new programs. The Food Pantry, Gift Shop, Thrift Store, and Ministry Office is now located on 1008 West Main Street in Rogersville, Tennessee. The food pantry serves 150 families with a box of food each week and provides clothes and household goods for them whenever needed. They always welcome volunteer's and donations at the food pantry.
Feed The Lambs
"Feed the Lambs" is a program especially for children. When school is out for the summer it takes more food for the family. Working with some of the area churches, Christian Women's Ministry gives each child a small shopping bag twice a month filled with healthy snacks... There are 12-15 items in each: Peanut Butter crackers, fruit, cereal, fruit juice, raisins, breakfast bars, graham crackers, fruit roll-ups are just a few of the items. April through July 1000 bags were passed out. They are always looking for new items to add to them and they need sponsors for the program as well.
Marjorie also says, "The future looks good for the Christian Women's Ministry. We need volunteers to monetary donations. Please pray about supporting our ministry in these ways and pray for us. We thank God for giving us a bigger building. We have many programs in line for this year and with God's grace and the continued support of others it will happen."
